The Photography Exhibition “The Timeless Allure of Hagi” by Sam Abell × George Nobechi

In 1980, Sam Abell’s home away from home in Hagi was the Old Tomoe Ryokan. There, he made two iconic photographs of life at the inn, published in National Geographic Magazine. His photograph of the tree visible through a window became the cover of his book “Seeing Gardens” In 2016, Sam Abell and George Nobechi connected with Koto Okami of the current “Hagi no Yado Tomoe”. Their relationship with the new inn continues to this day, and the new inn has come to occupy a special place in both their lives.
